Ben gets Brown Belt
Hi Folks. On Tuesday 30th May Ben went for his Brown Belt (3rd Kyu) in the Buntingford Karate Club.
This is a long grading as it involves (for the first time) bag work to show how accuracy and power has developed, some complicated Kihon (basics), and three katas – a compulsory Tekki Shodan, with two others picked by the examining panel. In this case we chose Heian Nidan and Heian Sandan.
There is also Kumite in the form of Kihon Ippon Kumite (one step sparring): Jyu Ippon Kumite (followed 1 step sparring) and Self-Defence against knife, bottle, left and right hooks, and front and rear strangle.
Then there is a Terminology Test.
Marcus (one of our Black Belts) partnered Ben for his Kumite section.
I must say that Ben turned in a very good and spirited performance. He managed to rein in his usual top speeds to show us his technical grasp of the movements required and is now well worth his Brown Belt. Well Done Ben!
Sensei Bill.
